I Love Typography
As designers, we love colours, layouts, images, and of course, sometimes more than anything, typography.
Typography is what what transforms an otherwise dull design into a beautiful work of art. To a non-designer, type can sound like such a miniscule part of design, but in fact, it is one of the most important parts of a design. It gives the design character (no pun intended). It evokes a feeling. Think of the magazine The New Yorker, it used a very distinguished modern/deco font that gives the magazine a very posh feel to it.
Take a look at the image below to see what happens when the type is replaced with Comic Sans. The classic rich looking New Yorker logo becomes a childish cartoony logo.
There are a lot of websites devoted to typography, but the one that has caught not only my attention, but the attention of designers across the globe, is one called I Love Typography. ILT is a great blog showcasing some of the best typography I’ve seen from designers all over the world. If you are interested in finding out more about typography or just seeing some of the amazing examples of typography, do yourself a favour and check this blog out. You won’t be disappointed.
