Defining the Web: Favicons

A “favicon” (AKA favourites icon, website icon, shortcut icon, URL icon, or bookmark icon) is a 16 by 16 pixel square icon that is associated with a website.

Favicons are displayed in the address bar, browser tabs, and bookmark list of most web browsers.

Why should you add a favicon to your website?

A favicon is an extra opportunity add an interesting design element to your website, as well as an extra place to add your branding.
